چکیده

An accretion disc around a compact star in a close binary star system is an ubiquitous and essential object. Accretion discs play, for example, important roles in cataclysmic variables, nova and X-ray sources. The standard theory to explain the physics in accretion discs is the α-disc model proposed by Shakura and Sunyaev (1973). In this theory, the accretion disc is in some kind of turbulent state, in which turbulent viscosity is parameterized by a phenomenological parameter α. However, the α-disc model is rather crude approximation to an accretion disc in a close binary system: tidal effects due to the companion star are, for example, not taken into account. To better take these effects into account, one has to rely on numerical simulations.

Boundary layer on the surface of a neutron star

In an attempt to model the accretion on to a neutron star in low-mass X-ray binaries, we present 2D hydrodynamical models of the gas flow in close vicinity of the stellar surface. First, we consider a gas pressure-dominated case, assuming that the star is non-rotating. For the stellar mass we take Mstar = 1.4 × 10−2 M and for the gas temperature T = 5 × 106 K. Our results are qualitatively diff...

Development of a novel method in TRMC for a Binary Gas Flow Inside a Rotating Cylinder

A new approach to calculate the axially symmetric binary gas flow is proposed Dalton’s law for partial pressures contributed by each species of a binary gas mixture (argon and helium) is incorporated into numerical simulation of rarefied axially symmetric flow inside a rotating cylinder using the time relaxed Monte-Carlo (TRMC) scheme and the direct simulation Monte-Carlo (DSMC) method. The res...

The formation of close binary systems by dynamical interactions and orbital decay

We present results from the first hydrodynamical star formation calculation to demonstrate that close binary stellar systems (separations ∼ < 10 AU) need not be formed directly by fragmentation. Instead, a high frequency of close binaries can be produced through a combination of dynamical interactions in unstable multiple systems and the orbital decay of initially wider binaries. Orbital decay ...

Incompressible fluid binary systems with internal flows – models of close binary neutron star systems with spin

In this paper we have examined numerically exact configurations of close binary systems composed of incompressible fluids with internal flows. Component stars of binary systems are assumed to be circularly orbiting each other but rotating nonsynchronously with the orbital motion, i.e. stars in binary systems have steady motions seen from a rotational frame of reference. We have computed several...

Asymptotic Analysis of Binary Gas Mixture Separation by Nanometric Tubular Ceramic Membranes: Cocurrent and Countercurrent Flow Patterns

Analytical gas-permeation models for predicting the separation process across  membranes (exit compositions and area requirement) constitutes an important and necessary step in understanding the overall performance of  membrane modules. But, the exact (numerical) solution methods suffer from the complexity of the solution. Therefore, solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations th...
